Ray Willard and Justin Bush will explore the priorities of the state and ways that Washington State and British Columbia could work together to address shared issues.
Ray Willard is a landscape architect and the roadside maintenance program manager at the Washington State Department of Transportation. A 30-year transportation department employee, he has been working on the state's integrated, roadside vegetation management for the past 20 years. The primary focus of his work has been creating and refining the statewide system for long-term planning and controlling roadside weeds using a process modeled on the principles of Integrated Pest Management. Ray worked on the legislation creating the Washington Invasive Species Council and has been participating in the council's work since inception.
Justin Bush was hired as the Executive Coordinator to the Washington Invasive Species Council in 2016. Justin has been working on invasive species issues since 2008 with federal, state, regional, and local organizations including King County, Skamania County, and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at the University of Texas at Austin where he managed the Texasinvasives.org statewide partnership. During these years, he has been involved in various projects to prevent, detect, and control both aquatic and terrestrial invasive species and is passionate about reducing the threat they pose to the native species and ecosystems.
